Ayurvedic medicine is an ancient Indian system of medicine which began over 3,000 years ago and is still widely used today, particularly alongside our Western conventional medicinal practices.
Ayurveda, meaning 'the science of life', is an ancient healing system focusing on bringing balance and harmony back to the body using a combination of herbs. It encompasses not just the treatment of a disease but also in preventing disease, which is achieved by balancing lifestyle, emotion and diet together, supporting the body system as a whole. According to ancient traditions, the soundness of body (sharira), mind (manas), and self or soul (atman) should be nurtured, then the individual, human or animal, is able to enjoy health.
According to Ayurveda, diseases primarily occur due to an imbalance of tridoshas (three dosha theory: Vata, Pitta, Kapha) thereby inducing inflammation in the body. Doshas (fault or defect) are classified as body and mind.
Using this holistic approach we can help to increase energy, promote wellbeing, decrease stress and prevent and cure disease.
Herbal combinations are used as an alternative as they are 100% natural, containing no artificial or chemical substances. They very rarely have side effects, help hugely to eliminate toxins. Many herbs are loaded with powerful antioxidants which are extremely useful in strengthening the immune system and aiding performance in the horse.
At Global Herbs we believe in using traditional Ayurvedic herbs in our current day practice, to treat horses naturally through nutritional support. Our goal is to provide targeted solutions to aid natural balance, using our Ayurvedic roots to combine knowledge of ancient wisdom with modern day veterinary science.
