Frisky Mare Plus
Historically our mares have naturally come into season during the Spring months, called the transitional period, where day length increases and temperatures become mild, allowing the oestrus cycle to awaken. In recent years we have seen this ‘transitional period’ become earlier and earlier, with changes in weather patterns and increased temperatures in months as early as February.
This period causes fluctuations in ovarian activity, or follicular waves, which is where we can start to see our behavioural changes begin in our Mares. Often these are in time with ovulation, occurring 3-7 out of the 21 days of a ‘normal’ oestrus cycle, however, our transition period can often cause prolonged changes in behaviour, as the body begins to regulate and starts to get into a pattern. We have also seen these prolonged behavioural changes as mares try to come into season earlier.
Increased levels of oestrogen, found at the timing on ovulation, coincide with often unwanted behaviours. Our mares can have changes in attitudes, increased urination, heightened anxieties and sensitives, not wanting to be separated from other horses, and often discomforts and pains. These can manifest themselves as kicking out, rearing, back pain and reluctancies to move forward.
Our natural mix of herbs, using traditional ayurvedic medicines, we can naturally increase the hormone progesterone therefore suppressing the amount of oestrogen in the body. By allowing the mix of herbs to work synergistically, we allow a calming effect, anti anxiety, anti inflammatory pain relief to all symptoms associated with the oestrus cycle.
Our FM mix is free of Agnus Castus, a herb which mimics our conventional medicines used regularly by mare owners, which in turn supresses this oestrus cycle by increasing a hormone called progesterone.
