From early on in life due to the requirement for early locomotion of the foal, the equine skeleton will undergo long periods of continuous loading, stresses and strains. Supporting our equines bones early on in life is therefore essential to their daily routine.
Research has shown that the horse has a shortened growth phase, meaning that in most breeds, 90% of their growth has been completed in the first 2 years of life, and often over 60% of their growth has been reached by the first year of life. When our equines reach the age of 2 years old, we then continue to work our horses, whether this be everyday hacking, jumping or cross-country, we inevitably continue to load their joints and bones daily. Once our equines reach skeletal maturity, the normal adult skeletal bone tissue continues to undergo bone remodelling, allowing the skeleton to naturally adapt to constant mechanical stresses, which change dependant on the workload and type of activity. From this knowledge, the requirement of supplements may be essential in early life and then throughout life, supporting the bones to allow healthy remodelling during work and rest.
Our unique blend of herbs in Strongbone support this normal remodelling of bones from daily activity, and also aid bone healing. Two of our main products, Edible stemmed vine, also known as Cissus Quadrangularis, and Terminalia Arjuna are found to affect osteoblast proliferation and differentiation as well as having chondroprotective effects. Arjuna has been traditionally used in bone healing and in many traditional medicines, is used for bone fracture treatment and to strengthen bones.
Strongbone is recommended for horses of any breed and age and is particularly useful in our young growing horses going into work. It can be used routinely to ensure that bones and joints remain as strong as possible.
